Why Locals Love Sun Raj Curry House

Sun Raj Curry House, nestled at 352, Jalan 5/57 in the bustling Bukit Gasing area of Petaling Jaya, is a delightful gem for anyone craving authentic South Indian and Indian cuisine. This humble yet vibrant corner eatery has earned a loyal following, thanks to its flavorful offerings that span both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes, alongside a charming coffee and tea culture that complements the hearty meals.

Walking into Sun Raj Curry House, you are greeted by a warm, no-frills ambiance that feels genuine and inviting — the kind of place where food takes center stage and every dish is crafted with care. The kitchen serves up a remarkable variety of classic South Indian staples, such as soft, fluffy idlis and richly spiced apams, which customers like Pui Cheng Lum praise for their perfectly light texture and authentic taste. Their apams, priced at an irresistible RM3 per piece, are a standout, making an excellent choice for those looking to indulge in traditional sweets and savories.

Vegetarian options shine here, with generous portions of comforting stir-fried green leafy vegetables and an array of flavorful veg dishes that invite you to savor healthy, expertly balanced meals. The fried cauliflower, as noted by CK Chai, is delightfully crispy, a perfect contrast to the robustly flavored kicap chicken which packs a savory punch. For non-vegetarian diners, the fried chicken’s crispiness and freshness stand out, adding to the well-rounded menu that satisfies varying palates.

One cannot overlook the unique range of fusion-style dishes such as the popular Maggie goreng – a gooey, spicy take on instant noodles that adds a nostalgic, local twist to the dining experience. The stall offering separately purchased fried items adds an element of spontaneity and delight, letting patrons customize their meal with crunchy, flavorful bites. Although the Poori may elicit mixed feelings, some guests found it to be one of their favorites, attesting to the kitchen’s commitment to diversity in textures and tastes.

Complementing the food, Sun Raj Curry House’s beverage selection is equally commendable. The coffee, described as perfectly blended and aromatic by frequent visitor Nagapanjami, pairs beautifully with a cup of masala tea or a soothing cup from their specialized tea store. This harmonious balance of food and drink creates a comforting, wholesome dining experience that keeps customers coming back.

Service here is friendly and attentive, enhancing the relaxed, casual vibe of the restaurant. While some diners note that the setting leans towards the basic side compared to more upscale peers, the sincerity of the staff and the cleanliness of the place elevate the overall impression—making it a reliable stop whether you’re seeking a quick lunch or a leisurely meal. Although a touch on the pricier side, the quality and authenticity of the dishes justify the investment, resulting in high customer satisfaction and many repeat visits.

Whether you are exploring Petaling Jaya’s culinary scene or simply in need of a comforting plate of South Indian delicacies paired with fresh brews, Sun Raj Curry House promises an authentic, flavorsome retreat. It's the perfect blend of tradition and comfort, bringing the vibrant tastes of India right to your table in a welcoming local setting.

Decent sized corner shop in which you can get Indian food and some goreng goreng noodle rice items too. There is this small stall that sells good fried items in which you have to pay separately. I simply chose 2 fried items and they were enjoyable. Apam @ RM3 per piece is recommended! Very nicely done;)))) Poori looks mediocre but it was one of the nicer items we had;) I had their Maggie goreng. It was spicy in a good way with alot more vege in which I appreciate;)) indo mee goreng wasn't great in terms of noodle texture, I would skip this. They didn't use the classic indo mee. I would return to try other food items.

Better half’s frequent lunch place … visit to validate the ratings. Food variety is good, spoilt of veg dishes choices.. awesome way to learn to control greed vs hunger & wastage! Taste wise, it’s good too, tho some veg were lil overcooked. Nice to see some authentic green leafy veg stir fry.. it’s healthy to have more variety of such veg dishes. Coffee C juz perfect to its blended mix! Price is reasonable, staff are quite friendly too. Environment… can be improved! To make it more cozier, a lil more cleaner Do visit esp if u r looking for wider choice of vegetarian food!

more basic presentation-wise than others of ilk in upmarket hood. full spectrum of carbo options for meal proper, and apams for after. idli in particular is good. as are veggie options, which come in big portions. good pitstop if traffic prevents progress.

Price wise fair. Taste wise fantastic! Love this place been backed few time since I came here two months ago. Tried almost everything they have.. waistline also grown bigger. For banana leaf it's not too bad but I'll prefer to self service rice plates as I can choose more vegetarian condiments. Fried chicken is good here and the curries.. omg Why no five star??? Ambience ....hahahhaa

There are plenty of choices and serves quality are acceptable although the staff can be friendlier. But overall, the dining experience was good, and I enjoyed the food. If you go after lunch, you must order the "goreng pisang"or banana fritters and curry puff. This is a must go place for authentic indian food.
